If there was an IQ quiz show for municipalities, Eindhoven would be the strong favorite to win. The area’s high IQ is partly attributable to the High Tech Campus, where over 10,000 researchers, developers and entrepreneurs are advancing technology and creating innovations of the future. This work is made possible by 24/7 access to data and computational power. So logically, Eindhoven is home to the Netherlands’ only tier 4 (!) data center. And if there’s power outage? The NLDC data center would keep humming.
This is an impressive achievement, as the NLDC is growing at record pace, serving more customers and processing more data than ever before. The data center is growing so rapidly, that the original emergency power supply (two 1500 kW generators) has already become insufficient. In September they started ‘plugging in’ additional capacity. This project is now nearing completion. And clearly there is more at stake than continuous power, as the NLDC shares ESC’s ambition for sustainability. Thus the generator set is preheated with recirculated water from the climate control system. A highly innovative concept that we are justifiably proud of!
